What is Faceclin Gel?

Faceclin gel is a widely appreciated medicine used for the treatment of acne vulgaris, pebbles, whiteheads and blackheads on the skin. It is manufactured by Abbott India. Faceclin gel contains the antibiotic Clindamycin and nicotinamide which is a form of vitamin B3 also known as Niacin.

Clindamycin falls under the classification of lincosamide antibiotics. It is chlorinated lincosamide.  It treats acne vulgaris. Clindamycin inhibits gram-positive cocci which include the species of streptococci, penicillinase-producing staphylococci, Nocardia, toxoplasma, Actinomyces and has slow action on plasmodia.

However, the distinctive feature of clindamycin is its high antibiotic activity against a variety of anaerobes.

How Does Faceclin Gel Treat Acne Vulgaris?

Faceclin Gel is a combination of two medicines, first is the antibiotic Clindamycin and the other is a form of vitamin B Nicotinamide, which treats pimples and acne. Clindamycin penetrates into the skin and kills the bacteria that cause acne. Nicotinamide provides anti-inflammatory effects when applied to the skin. Therefore, it reduces the swelling, tenderness and redness which is associated with acne.

Lincomycin is the forerunner of Clindamycin. It has similar antibacterial and toxic properties. However, it is less potent than Clindamycin and it produces a higher incidence of diarrhoea and colitis. The use of lincomycin has also led to some deaths. Therefore, it has been largely replaced by Clindamycin.

Clindamycin is thus an antibiotic agent which is widely used and recommended by medical health personnel for treating various bacterial infections of the skin. It deters the growth and multiplication of bacteria that cause acne.
